Nondestructive Testing Laboratory
Laboratory supervisor: Bor-Liang Chen, Professor
Laboratory number: A1-527
Laboratory floor level: 5F
Nondestructive testing is a method of detecting deterioration and its degree within structures without destroying the structure indirectly through some type of medium, such as sound, light, electricity, or magnetism. Compared with typical direct testing methods, such as mechanical gauging or knocking, nondestructive testing is more agile and rapid.
Educational features:
- Familiarization with operating the experimental apparatus.
- Onsite operation and guidance by testing engineers.
- Integration of theory and onsite practical operations.
Experiments:
- Scanning reinforcing bars
- Rebound hammer tests
- Ultrasonic wave velocity tests
- Impact echo tests
- Testing for corrosion of reinforcements
- Ground penetrating radars
- Leak hunting tests
- Metallographic reproduction
- Coefficient of friction
